Toilets in poor condition or without a lock: problem fixed at Centre de formation Le Phare thanks to citizen monitoring
At Centre de formation Le Phare (Lukunga, Kinshasa), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: toilets in poor condition or without a lock. Within 74 days and through « Meeting with the school management », the school fixed the problem.
Centre de formation Le Phare welcomes its pupils every day in Lukunga (Kinshasa). Like other schools followed by EduCheck, it has an Integrity Club: student monitors trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC) to observe their school with a shared questionnaire, report problems on EduCheck and talk with those in charge until they are solved.
The problem
On 6 January 2026, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at Centre de formation Le Phare: toilets in poor condition or without a lock.
Water and decent toilets determine pupils’ health and whether girls come to school.
The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the school management.
The dialogue
The monitors opened a dialogue with the school management:
- Meeting with the school management
The result
The fix was recorded on 21 March 2026, 74 days after the report.
The monitors will check the fix during their next visit; the problem will then move to « Verified ».
This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
Your school can change too
Students, parents and teachers trained by CERC monitor their school and talk with those in charge until problems are fixed.
