Furniture lacking or in poor condition: problem fixed at Complexe scolaire Mapendo thanks to citizen monitoring
At Complexe scolaire Mapendo (Tshangu, Kinshasa), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: furniture lacking or in poor condition. Within 69 days and through « Funding from an external partner », the school fixed the problem.
Complexe scolaire Mapendo welcomes its pupils every day in Tshangu (Kinshasa). Like other schools followed by EduCheck, it has an Integrity Club: student monitors trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC) to observe their school with a shared questionnaire, report problems on EduCheck and talk with those in charge until they are solved.
The problem
On 20 December 2025, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at Complexe scolaire Mapendo: furniture lacking or in poor condition.
Without desks, pupils write on their knees or sit on the floor: they tire faster and learn less well.
The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the school management.
The dialogue
The monitors opened a dialogue with the school management:
- Funding from an external partner
The result
The fix was recorded on 27 February 2026, 69 days after the report.
The monitors will check the fix during their next visit; the problem will then move to « Verified ».
This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
Your school can change too
Students, parents and teachers trained by CERC monitor their school and talk with those in charge until problems are fixed.
