Lessons not held as timetabled: problem fixed at Institut Kitumaini thanks to citizen monitoring

Illustration : temps scolaire

At Institut Kitumaini (Ibanda, Bukavu, Sud-Kivu), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: lessons not held as timetabled. Within 57 days and through « Meeting with the school management », the school fixed the problem.

Institut Kitumaini welcomes its pupils every day in Ibanda (Sud-Kivu). Like other schools followed by EduCheck, it has an Integrity Club: student monitors trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC) to observe their school with a shared questionnaire, report problems on EduCheck and talk with those in charge until they are solved.

The problem

On 19 January 2026, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at Institut Kitumaini: lessons not held as timetabled.

Every lesson hour lost is an hour of learning pupils never get back.

The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the school management.

The dialogue

The monitors opened a dialogue with the school management:

  • Meeting with the school management

The result

The fix was recorded on 17 March 2026, 57 days after the report.

The monitors will check the fix during their next visit; the problem will then move to « Verified ».

This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
