Building not accessible to people living with disabilities: problem fixed at Centre de formation Le Phare thanks to citizen monitoring
At Centre de formation Le Phare (Lukunga, Kinshasa), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: building not accessible to people living with disabilities. Within 85 days and through « Advocacy », the project fixed the problem.
The « Salle informatique » project is meant to improve Centre de formation Le Phare (Lukunga, Kinshasa). Student monitors of the school’s Integrity Club, trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC), follow the works with the EduCheck questionnaire to check that what was promised is delivered.
The problem
On 29 November 2025, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at Centre de formation Le Phare: building not accessible to people living with disabilities.
Every step without a ramp keeps out pupils living with disabilities, who have the same right to school as everyone else.
The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the project management committee and the contractor.
The dialogue
The monitors opened a dialogue with the project management committee and the contractor:
- Advocacy
The result
The fix was recorded on 22 February 2026, 85 days after the report.
The monitors will check the fix during their next visit; the problem will then move to « Verified ».
This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
Your school can change too
Students, parents and teachers trained by CERC monitor their school and talk with those in charge until problems are fixed.
