Safaricom Slashes 5G Router Prices By 60%, Spreads Network To 35 Counties

Safaricom has slashed 5G router prices by 60%, aiming to make super-fast internet connectivity more accessible to its customers across 35 counties.

The price for the routers is now Ksh.9,999, down from the previous Ksh.25,000.

In a statement released to media houses on November 1, Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa, emphasized the company’s commitment to driving digital transformation.

He highlighted the potential of 5G technology to bridge the digital divide in underserved communities, improve access to critical services like healthcare, and stimulate economic growth by connecting small businesses to new opportunities.

“As a digital lifestyle enabler, we are excited about a 5G future, which makes it possible to close the digital divide in underserved communities, provide access to critical services such as healthcare or spur economic growth by connecting small businesses to new opportunities. By increasing 5G coverage, we are enhancing Kenya’s best internet network and empowering our customers to start exploring the possibilities of 5G,” he stated.

The mobile service provider is giving eligible customers the chance to sign an 18-month contract and get the 5G router for free. Additionally, they offer more Wi-Fi options for home consumers due to the expansion of 5G services.

Customers can now choose from 400GB for Ksh.3,499, 800GB for Ksh.5,999, or 1500GB for Ksh.9,999.

5G Wi-Fi for business offers unlimited packages starting at Ksh.4,000 for 10 Mbps in response to the different need for a business for always-on connectivity,” the statement read.

Safaricom has partnered with Huawei to establish 5G experience centers and introduce 5G data bundles. Over 500,000 customers with 5G smartphones can now enjoy ultra-fast browsing speeds. The 5G network is now available in various Kenyan counties, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru.
